Midtown Family Services’ Adult Re-entry Program provides assistance to individuals returning to Santa Clara County from California State Prisons. They are seeking financing to support the day-to-day operations while they wait for grant funding to be received from the California Bureau of State and Community Corrections Adult Re-entry Grant program.
Midtown Family Services (MFS) supports families in crisis by providing general navigation services for stable housing, sustained employment, and self-sufficiency.
Each year, MFS assists 3,600 low-income individuals and families in the high poverty areas of West San Jose. These homeless or at risk of becoming homeless individuals/families are connected with immediate financial assistance or shelter services.
Their holistic approach includes case management, needs assessment, financial coaching, direct referrals, and emergency financial assistance. In addition to the Family Services program, MFS offers an Adult Re-entry Program; this 1-year program helps formerly incarcerated individuals integrate back into their communities.
Use of Proceeds & Repayment
The proceeds from this bridge loan will provide Midtown Family Services with working capital to support the organization’s day-to-day operations.
The loan will be repaid through grant funds received from the California Bureau of State and Community Corrections Adult Re-entry Grant program.
Why Support this Program
Bryan Stevenson wrote,
“I believe that each person is more than the worst thing they’ve ever done.”
The MFS Team believes this as well.
This loan is needed to bridge the funding gap in operating expenses and receiving grant funds. The grant funding has been recently changed to be a reimbursement program – expenses have to be incurred and then the State is “invoiced”.
In order for Midtown Family Services to continue their Adult Re-entry services, they need the funds first.
They have a proven track record: 98% of their Re-entry clients remain housed after going through their program.
